Our local chef at the Molly Butler Restaurant went on an outing fishing with his friend at River Reservoir in Greer for a fun day fishing. His friend caught this fantastic fish.
They measure the weight and the length of this brown trout. The Arizona Game and fish has been trying to get rid of this type of fish because they get so big and end up eating all the stocked fish.
We think that the Arizona Game and Fish had just stocked River Reservoir at the ramp and those of you familiar with River Reservoir know that the boat ramp is right by the dam. We are theorizing that the Browns were feeding on the newly stocked fish. There are a lot of big Browns in these lakes, but they are at times difficult to catch.
The Brown Trout has not been stocked by the Arizona Game and fish since sometime in the early 1990's. These fish naturally spawn up each of the rivers leading in to the three lakes mostly in October. Thus they are a native Brown Trout and not a stocked trout as everywhere else.

It was very windy, but clear as can be seen at the background.
The real good news is that he RELEASED the fish back into the lake for someone else to catch again. We should all be grateful he did that. Catch and release is such a kind gift to other fisherman.
