Hey all!
Well, the stocking trucks are out and running. You know, you can always check the AZGFD stocking schedule HERE, but here’s a short overview of our neck of the woods, anyway:
Becker: Stocked the week of March 2nd / scheduled to be stocked weeks of March 23rd and March 30th
Nelson: Stocked the weeks of March 9th and March 16th
Greer Lakes (Bunch, Tunnel, and River): Scheduled to be stocked weeks of March 23rd and March 30th
Luna: Stocked week of March 9th
Hulsey: Scheduled to be stocked weeks of March 23rd and April 6th
As you can imagine, fishing has been good at Nelson and Luna. Good reports coming from Becker, as well. Power Bait, worms, lures, and flies. (Catch and Release…Lures and flies ONLY at Becker!)
I fished Luna on March 4th, prior to the new stocking, and I caught 2 Rainbows and my first Gila from shore, stripping a streamer.
Big Lake is doing fairly well, and will only get better as we move further into Spring. The only “official” route into Big Lake right now is FR 249 down by Alpine. The other roads are still officially closed.
None…that’s NONE of the rivers or streams are scheduled to be stocked until May still. I do get some reports of people catching a few here and there in the LCR upstream from Greer and a few from the East Fork of the Black. Mostly small Browns.
The season is upon us, gang! With this heat…and if we don’t get much rain, it could be a short one, so get out and catch those fish while you can!!!
